Additional Information
At Highland Mill Landing, we believe in old-fashioned honesty and full transparency. We want our customers to understand how we raise our poultry, what goes into our feed, and how we handle our products from processing through packaging.
Our family has personal experience with food allergies and Alpha-Gal Syndrome. Those experiences have shaped the way we think about ingredients, feed, cleaning products, and food handling. We believe customers deserve clear, accurate information so they can make informed decisions for their own households.
Below, you’ll find details about our poultry feed, water and ice source, cleaning products, processing methods, and handling practices.
Poultry Transparency & Processing
Feed Ingredients
Our poultry is raised on a custom-milled feed formulated to provide the protein and nutrients needed to support healthy growth and development.
The feed contains soy, which serves as a protein source and helps us achieve the nutritional levels needed for our birds.
We pay close attention to our feed formulation and the ingredients used in it.
Full Feed Ingredient List
Our custom poultry feed includes:
- Barley
- Oats (whole, local)
- Wheat
- Bean meal (soy-based protein source)
- HP 160 Basic
- Milo
- Lime
- Sunflower seeds
- Split green peas
- Dicalcium phosphate (Dical)
- Lysine
- Methionine
- Mold inhibitor
- Ridley poultry mineral
- Molasses
The calcium supplement used in our feed is not derived from oyster shells.
Ingredients Not Intentionally Included in Our Feed Formula
Our custom feed is formulated without intentionally added:
- Corn ingredients
- Fish ingredients
- Shellfish ingredients
- Mammalian by-products
- Artificial dyes
We do not intentionally add hormones or medications to the feed formula. Veterinary treatments, if needed, are handled separately.
Corn Cross-Contact Information
Our feed is formulated without corn ingredients, but it is mixed at a mill where corn is also processed. This means cross-contact may occur during manufacturing.
We want to be open about this distinction. Although corn is not intentionally included in the formula, we cannot guarantee that the finished feed is completely free of unintended corn traces.
We recognize that this information matters to customers who carefully evaluate ingredients and possible cross-contact. We are happy to answer questions about our feed formulation and sourcing.
Water & Ice Source
Water used for our on-farm processing, rinsing, chilling, and cleanup comes from our private well.
The ice used for chilling is made in our personal ice machine using water from the same well, without additional filters or additives.
We aim to maintain consistency in our water and ice sources and follow the applicable water-testing, sanitation, and handling requirements for our operation.
Customers with questions about our water source or handling procedures are welcome to contact us.
Soaps & Cleaners Used
We pay close attention to the products used to clean our processing areas and equipment. We prefer unscented cleaning products and follow the applicable directions for cleaning and sanitizing.
Products used in our routine include:
- Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Baby Soap for cleaning
- CleanSmart for sanitizing surfaces
These products are part of our cleaning routine. They are used according to their applicable directions and intended uses.
We also consider fragrances and other ingredients when selecting products for our operation. For questions about a particular cleaning product, please contact us for additional information.
Processing Methods
Our poultry is processed on-farm using the procedures applicable to our operation. We take care throughout handling, processing, chilling, trimming, and packaging.
Our process includes:
- Careful handling of birds
- Stainless-steel equipment
- Rinsing with water only, without soaps or additives
- Chilling in ice water
- Careful trimming and inspection
- Vacuum sealing using FoodSaver brand bags
Each bird is handled with care throughout preparation and packaging.
After purchase, poultry should be kept refrigerated or frozen and handled according to the storage and safe-handling instructions provided on the product label.
Handling & Ingredient Transparency
Because our family has experience with food allergies and Alpha-Gal Syndrome, we understand the importance of knowing more about the food we bring into our home.
Our poultry-related practices include:
- A custom feed formula that does not intentionally include corn, fish, shellfish, or mammalian by-products
- A calcium supplement that is not derived from oyster shells
- Unscented cleaning products as part of our cleaning routine
- Poultry-dedicated equipment
- Careful handling and packaging
- Clear product information about our practices and ingredients
We aim to reduce opportunities for unintended contact through our ingredient choices and handling practices. However, we cannot guarantee the absence of all cross-contact or that a product will be suitable for every person with a food allergy or medical condition.
The information on this page describes our practices; it is not a guarantee of allergy safety. Customers with specific allergies or sensitivities should review the available information and contact us with questions before purchasing.
Our commitment is to be honest about what we use, what we avoid, and what we can and cannot verify.
